SAILING to Lofoten Islands

Monday September 6th, 2010On friday PAKEA BIZKAIA left the comfort of the Sogne fiord to star a journey of 500 miles that will take them to the Lofoten Islands in the North 68.

They left about 10 am and had about 45 miles of sailing into the fjord before heading out to sea. They had a very powerful cyclone that prevented the storms approaching from the Atlantic reach these latitudes. The winds that accompanied them on this trip were from the northeast 20 knots and then go to E and SE.
In any case, as the vikings always did when they sailed their drakes, the crew was instructed to Niord, God of the sea coast who always protected the sailors.
The crew expected to arrive in port today or tomorrow to the Lofoten Islands. There are waiting biologists of Ocean Sounds organization, a group who research and protect marine life in the area of northern Norway. If it is possible, the crew is going to the areas of cetacean sightings.
