Navigating in low HOLLAND

Monday October 11th, 2010On Friday 8 the PAKEA BIZKAIA has docked at the port of Houthven, in the heart of Amsterdam, after traveling the 50 miles that separated them from the port of Harlingen across the Ijsselmeer and after in Mar Markermeer.

At first was going to be smooth sailing for the inland sea that connects Amsterdam Harlingen but soon became a tense nerves sailed proof, because there is little depth in this sea, between 0 and 5 meters, caused during this journey not lose sight of the probe at any time. It is easy to navigate with little water under the keel but when it does not exceed one meter deep you need to steady your nerves. The fog that they had for much of the journey didn´t facilitate the work, and the low visibility had increased this sense of insecurity.

After 10 hours of sailing, the circumstances made them to be cautious and go slowly, spend three locks and cross two bridges docked in Amsterdam.
