DUMPS in the sea

We have already spoken of garbage floating on the sea surface or sink into the Ocean because humans thrown on our shores or because ships that sail in the oceans are thrown overboard. All these marine debris directly affect marine life, fish, mammals and birds.

According to a report by KIMO International, more than a million seabirds and 100,000 marine mammals die every year from entanglement in nets or caught in plastic reservoirs. Something similar happens when turtles mistake plastic floating in the water with jellyfish and eat them. Or birds that eat lots of small pieces of plastic that confuse with goldfish. To see photos spectacular and alarming about these issues can visit the photos that the photographer Chris Jordan performs.

But not only marine life suffers from the existence of waste in the Sea, humans also suffer directly and indirectly. Fishermen, for example, have been reduced catches, logically the existence of debris ingested by the fish is not the only reason, but one of them. They also tend to lose a lot of time fixing the damage caused when the residues are attached to the engine.

In recent weeks, as we sailed, we found plenty of garbage floating on the surface of the sea, especially plastic bottles, tetra-BRICS, boxes, bottles, plastic bags, various containers, fishing nets, etc.

It is in the ports where the waste is more visible, but do not forget that weight waste sink and remain in the funds, in fact, 80-62% of trash found on beaches and 55 to 38% on the seabed.

Perhaps for this reason we haven´t found many waste as initially thought we would find floating on the surface, but we must not forget that although we doný see they are there.
